We are experiencing technology infrastructure outages like many medical offices across Middle Tennessee today.

All clinics are open and we are scheduling appointments for new and returning patients.

Thank you for your patience as we work through this issue. - Team NFA

Common Big Toe Problems

Common Big Toe Problems

Hallux Varus causes the big toe to point away from the second toe. Hallux Varus can be a complication that develops after a bunion surgery. However, there are other potential causes of Hallux Varus, such as congenital deformity, tight or short tendons, specifically the abductor hallucis tendons, an absence or surgical removal of a fibular sesamoid, or trauma or injury.

Treatment for Hallux Varus may include:

  • Performing exercises specifically designed to stretch the abductor hallucis tendon.
  • Toe splints.

Your podiatrist may recommend surgery for severe cases of Hallux Varus. The surgery consists of a small incision being made on the side of the toe. Then, the toe is moved into a neutral or straight position and a splint is applied. If you believe you have developed Hallux Varus, whether after a surgery for a bunion or for another reason, contact your podiatrist or contact our office at (888) 713-0906 to set up an appointment for an examination.
