Laser Treatment for Nail Fungus

The Light Age Q-Clear laser treatment is a relatively new and innovative option in nail fungus treatment, and so far we are getting great results with laser treatment in our office. The Light Age Q-Clear laser treatment is quick (it takes less than 10 minutes to treat all ten nails), it can be performed in the office, and it is painless.

There are also fewer possible side effects with the laser treatment than with oral treatments for nail fungus.

In the beginning, only one treatment session was recommended, but we have now seen that more than one treatment is needed for more severe infections. In mild cases, we have seen one treatment clear up the nails, but for more serious infections, we are currently recommending treatments every three months until the infection is gone.

What You Can Expect with Laser Treatment for Nail Fungus:

  • A fast, in-office treatment
  • Safe and effective treatment
  • No downtime. You can back to your regular activity immediately after treatment.
  • No pain. You shouldn’t feel any pain with this procedure. What you should feel is a mild, warming sensation in the area that is being treated.

It usually takes somewhere between 6 and 12 months to see results, but this really depends on how fast your nails grow. You should begin seeing new, healthy nail growth at the bottom part of your nail as it grows out.

As stated before, we have had great results with this treatment in our office so far, but the ultimate success of the treatment depends largely upon the patient continuing to care for the affected nails after the procedure is performed. Your podiatrist will advise you on how to keep your nails healthy and how to help prevent recurrence of the infection after the treatment, and it is imperative that you follow those guidelines. Recurrence of nail fungus is common, and it is important for the patient to do everything possible to prevent the nail fungus from returning.
