Washington Wizards Center, Nene Hilario, Struggling With Plantar Fasciitis
Nene Hilario, Washington Wizards center, has been off the court since the Olympics when he was taken out of play due to a flare up of Plantar Fasciitis. He has been forced to sit out of games and many practices, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t participate in the team. Nene has been as active as possible from the sidelines since his Plantar Fasciitis flared up, coming to practice to listen and learn and help out any way he can.
“I hope I can come back soon,” Nene is quoted as saying by The Washington Post. “I’m going to do the maximum I can. I can lead vocal, talk to the players, see things they didn’t see while they played. That’s the way I can help them.”
It is unclear right now when Nene will be able to return to the court. He has been struggling with Plantar Fasciitis since last season and there are many who are worried his Plantar Fasciitis will affect the upcoming season as well. It is important that he does not return to the court too soon since a key part of treatment for Plantar Fasciitis is rest. It is difficult to recover from Plantar Fasciitis if you don’t give your heel time to rest by cutting down on your physical activities.
If you suffer from Plantar Fasciitis, you know how intensely painful the condition can be and may wonder what else you can to cut down on that pain. Here are some tips for relieving plantar fasciitis pain:
- Stretch out the calf muscle with stretching exercises. We have a handout available on our website and in our office with stretching exercises designed specifically to help relieve Plantar Fasciitis pain.
- Put an ice pack on your heel for 10 minutes several times a day. This will reduce inflammation.
- Rest your heel and avoid strenuous activities.
- Take ibuprofen or another non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug to help with pain and inflammation. (Always consult a physician before taking any medication.)
