Update on the New Laser Treatment for Toenail Fungus
It has now been about 3 months since our practice became the first medical practice in Tennessee to start using the Q-clear laser for the treatment of toenail fungus, better known by physicians as Onychomycosis. We have treated over 250 patients thus far. The response to this new technology has been much more than I would have predicted. What we have learned so far is it is a quick and painless procedure. In less than 10 minutes, we can treat all 10 toenails. There are no side effects and it can be used on anyone. Patients and visitors also get to wear neat looking space age goggles when in the room while the laser is being used.
We have had the opportunity to educate our patients on the causes of nail fungus and have created a great take home folder full of information on what causes nail fungus, as well as tips on how to prevent recurrence. We have great products in the office to help prevent fungal infections like the sterishoe, Dr. Remedy anti-fungal nail polish, athlete's foot creams and anti-fungal shoe sprays to name a few.
While it will take a full 6-12 months to see the results of this new procedure I am very optomistic that we will see 80-90% success with the Q-Clear Laser. Early results around the country show this to be the most effective laser on the market for nail fungus. Check out our new website for more info at www.nashvilletoenailfungus.com.
