The most common complaint Neuhaus Foot and Ankle hears from patients is that their feet hurt when they first wake up in the morning. This tends to be followed by, "This usually goes away as the day continues so this is why I have put coming to you for my foot pain." Because this is so common, I feel that it is important to educate you on the possible conditions this pain could be from. Some of the reasons include Plantar Fasciitis, Achilles Tendonitis, and tight ligaments. Ultimately, foot pain is not normal and you should never think that foot pain is normal. If you have any type of consistent foot pain, you should visit your local Podiatrist.

In the following video, Dr. Matthew Neuhaus gives many reasons why your feet could hurt when you wake up in the morning. We are located in the Nashville, TN area in Smyrna and Brentwood. If you have any questions or would like to make an appointment with us, call us at (615) 220-8788 or visit our website at www.neufoot.com.

It's possible! Your feet carry the weight of your body while you are performing your daily activities. Therefore, weight gain can cause foot pain, but this is not the only reason. We have recently implemented a program into our practice to help our patients become healthy and to reduce the amount of foot pain our patients are experiencing if our patients are interested in the program. No matter what the cause is for your foot pain, it is important that you take care of your foot pain and make an appointment with your local podiatrist if you have foot pain. Foot pain is not normal. We want your feet to be happy and healthy and will treat you foot problems to the best of our ability!

Dr. Matthew Neuhaus discusses the important of living a healthy lifestyle and how you can keep your doctor's visits to a minimum by losing weight the right way and keeping the weight off for good. If you are interested in our office's weight loss program, visit our website at www.walklighter.com. Stress fractures is something commonly seen in our office for patients who are runners or someone who has rapidly increased their activity in a short period of time. The most common place on your foot to get a stress fracture is your metatarsals, the five long bones that run through the midfoot to the bases of your toes. The best sign that you have a stress fracture will most likely be increased general foot pain that interferes with your workout or running. This pain will then have a focal point of pain which you can pinpoint exactly where you are having the foot pain. While stress fractures often occur when over-training, other causes are possible. You can also have multiple stress fractures at one time.

Often, a patient will have x-rays taken of their foot to determine if a stress fracture is present. If the x-rays do not show any injury to the metatarsal bones, sometimes a CT scan or MRI will be ordered to see possible injuries. If you think you may have a stress fracture, please call our office at (615) 220-8788 to set up an appointment to have your foot further examined and properly treated.

Haglund's Deformity, or the "pump bump", is a bony enlargement on the back of the heel that is most commonly diagnosed in young women who wear pumps or heels. The "pump bump" is called this because of the pressure from the rigid backs of the heels aggravates the enlargement when walking  This type of deformity that most often leads to painful bursitis, which is an inflammation of the bursa (a fluid-filled sac between the tendon and bone). In Haglund's deformity, the soft tissue near the Achilles tendon becomes irritated when the bony enlargement rubs against shoes.

Dr. Matthew Neuhaus explains the various causes and treatment options for the bump on the back of your heel for Haglund's Deformity. Dr Neuhaus and Dr Knox of Neuhaus Foot & Ankle have two offices outside the Nashville, TN area in Smyrna, TN and Brentwood, TN. If you think you may have Haglund's Deformity or if you have any questions, feel free to call our office at (615) 220-8788 or visit our Haglund's Deformity webpage devoted to this condition.
