Gout is a disorder that results from the build-up of uric acid in the tissues or a joint. Gout most often occurs in the joint of the big toe. An attack of gout can be miserable, marked by symptoms of intense pain that comes on suddenly, often in the middle of the night or upon arising, as well as redness, swelling, and warmth over the joint which are signs of inflammation.

Gout can "flare up" with no warning. To reduce your changes of a gout attack, limit or avoid foods like shellfish, red meat, and organ meants like liver or kidney, and stay away from red wine and beer. If you believe you are experiencing a gout attack of the foot, call our office to schedule an appointment. We will be happy review your past medical history and take x-rays to determine the best diagnosis and treatment plan.
