"I went in for a simple ingrown toenail removal and almost passed out from the procedure in the office. The staff was very caring and got me some water and had me lie down. I was very impressed with how kind Dr. Knox was. He has a wonderful way with the patients and talked me through the entire procedure."

The most common complaint Neuhaus Foot and Ankle hears from patients is that their feet hurt when they first wake up in the morning. This tends to be followed by, "This usually goes away as the day continues so this is why I have put coming to you for my foot pain." Because this is so common, I feel that it is important to educate you on the possible conditions this pain could be from. Some of the reasons include Plantar Fasciitis, Achilles Tendonitis, and tight ligaments. Ultimately, foot pain is not normal and you should never think that foot pain is normal. If you have any type of consistent foot pain, you should visit your local Podiatrist.

In the following video, Dr. Matthew Neuhaus gives many reasons why your feet could hurt when you wake up in the morning. We are located in the Nashville, TN area in Smyrna and Brentwood. If you have any questions or would like to make an appointment with us, call us at (615) 220-8788 or visit our website at www.neufoot.com.

Haglund's Deformity, or the "pump bump", is a bony enlargement on the back of the heel that is most commonly diagnosed in young women who wear pumps or heels. The "pump bump" is called this because of the pressure from the rigid backs of the heels aggravates the enlargement when walking  This type of deformity that most often leads to painful bursitis, which is an inflammation of the bursa (a fluid-filled sac between the tendon and bone). In Haglund's deformity, the soft tissue near the Achilles tendon becomes irritated when the bony enlargement rubs against shoes.

Dr. Matthew Neuhaus explains the various causes and treatment options for the bump on the back of your heel for Haglund's Deformity. Dr Neuhaus and Dr Knox of Neuhaus Foot & Ankle have two offices outside the Nashville, TN area in Smyrna, TN and Brentwood, TN. If you think you may have Haglund's Deformity or if you have any questions, feel free to call our office at (615) 220-8788 or visit our Haglund's Deformity webpage devoted to this condition.

The summer is the worst time of year when it comes to wearing improper shoes. Most sandals have no support or a very little amount and this can lead to foot problems. Also, it is vital to make sure that your shoes correctly fit your feet. These two tips are primary components to overall foot care. Poor fitting shoes can lead to blisters, bruising, ingrown toenails and other foot problems. You want your shoes to fit properly so you can avoid these complications.

When you are shopping for a new pair of shoes, the most important factor is that your size is not the same from shoe to shoe. The size of your shoes varies from one style or manufacture to the next. Therefore, you may wear a womens size 8 running shoe, but you may need to wear a size 7 or 9 dress shoe.  One more helpful hit when comparing the same shoe style , a half size larger will be 1/6 inch longer and a width wider will be 1/16 inch wider at the ball of your foot and a total of 1/8 inch wider in circumference. Then, you need to look at the support the shoe gives you. In Middle Tennessee this week, the temperature outside has been nothing but HOT and every one wears sandals or flip-flops. Sadly, most do not have support but we found you the right kind of flip-flops for the summer. Chacos, Dansko, FitFlop Sandals and Orthaheel Sandals are among the recommended list for supportive sandals that are great for your feet.

www.apma.org has more information on helpful hits to help with proper fitting shoes as well as shoes with great support for walking, running, or just because. If you need have noticed any of the above foot complications, call our office at (615) 220-8788 or request an appointment online. You can also learn more information about different conditions at www.neufoot.com.
