Learn the proper way to do stretching for heel pain, plantar fasciitis, tendonitis, achilles tendon problems, arch pain and other foot problems as described by Dr. Matthew D. Neuhaus. An instructional video from Dr. Neuhaus in Smyrna and Brentwood, Tennessee will help show you the proper techniques for a Podiatrist's guide to stretching exercises for heel pain, plantar fasciitis, achilles tendonitis and other foot problems. Demonstrated by Neuhaus Foot & Ankle, providing care to patients in the Nashville, TN area-Murfreesboro, Smyrna, LaVergne, Nolensville, Antioch and Mt. Juliet, Tennessee.  More information on other foot problems and foot care products can be found at www.neufoot.com.

We are doing it again! Tomorrow, Tuesday, August 30th, 2011at 6:30pm in our Smyrna location (300 StoneCrest Blvd. Suite 350, Smyrna, TN 37167) Dr. Neuhaus will have an informational session about the weight loss program Take Shape For Life that will be implemented into our office for patients who are interested in losing weight the right way and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The meeting tomorrow night will explain what the program is all about including rapid weight loss results with real testimonials, easy and convenient meals, and a health coach that will help you along your journey of losing weight. Weight plays a roll in your foot pain and both Dr. Neuhaus and Dr. Knox feel that a healthy patient lifestyle will contribute to the success of walking pain free without the use of medication and injections.

We are committed to helping you achieve your goal weight and creating the healthy lifestyle you have always wanted, but never known what to do to get there. Feel free to call our office (615) 220-8788 to reserve your spot at the seminar. Walk-ins are also welcome! Bring your family, friends, and neighbors! Everyone is welcome! There are actually a few reasons why feet may hurt when starting off your day. One reason may be plantar fasciitis or heel pain. If you have problems with your arches, flat feet, or you continually wear non-supportive shoes, the band of tissue could become inflamed. People with plantar fasciitis often describe the pain as worse when they get up in the morning or after they've been sitting for long periods of time. After a few minutes of walking the pain decreases, because walking stretches the fascia. Another reason could be tendonitis. A sudden increase in activity could cause the tendon to be placed under too much stress, resulting in a micro-injury with the tendon fibers. Continued stress decreases the likelihood of the tendon to be repaired ultimately causing continued pain. Therefore, when you wake in the morning, the tendon has tightened which increases this pain.

The truth of the matter is heel spurs very rarely cause heel pain. Most heel pain is caused by a ligament in the bottom of the foot called the plantar fascia. Plantar fasciitis is very common and can be treated with stretching, shoe changes, orthotics (shoe inserts), braces, medication and sometimes cortisone injections. A quick consult from a podiatrist will confirm the diagnosis and within a few weeks the pain can be gone. Most people live with plantar fasciitis because they think it is normal for their feet to hurt. Remember foot pain is NEVER normal! A great resource on basic foot problems is the book written by Dr. Neuhaus, Healthy Feet 101: Healthy Feet are Happy Feet. You can request a copy of the book on the home page of www.neufoot.com.

It is recommended that you visit a podiatrist if:

  • You have pain in your feet
  • You are on your feet all day
  • You have skin or nail problems (ingrown or discolored toenails, corns, skin rashes)
  • You have foot odor
  • You have a foot injury
  • You have health problems such as diabetes or arthritis
  • You have recurrent trips and falls
  • You have problems getting shoes to fit comfortably
  • You have lumps or bumps, bunions or misshapen toes
