The most common complaint Neuhaus Foot and Ankle hears from patients is that their feet hurt when they first wake up in the morning. This tends to be followed by, "This usually goes away as the day continues so this is why I have put coming to you for my foot pain." Because this is so common, I feel that it is important to educate you on the possible conditions this pain could be from. Some of the reasons include Plantar Fasciitis, Achilles Tendonitis, and tight ligaments. Ultimately, foot pain is not normal and you should never think that foot pain is normal. If you have any type of consistent foot pain, you should visit your local Podiatrist.

In the following video, Dr. Matthew Neuhaus gives many reasons why your feet could hurt when you wake up in the morning. We are located in the Nashville, TN area in Smyrna and Brentwood. If you have any questions or would like to make an appointment with us, call us at (615) 220-8788 or visit our website at www.neufoot.com.

There is a major difference between over-the-counter inserts and custom made inserts made specifically for you. Not all insurance companies cover custom inserts, or orthotics, and we do not expect our patients to pay for these out of pocket if he or she cannot afford the orthotics. There are literally hundreds of products on the market that claim that they “will improve foot comfort” or “relieve pain”. Ashoe insert is typically cushioned for comfort yet these do not provide any real support and often only relieve pain for a short time, eventually increasing foot problems as they wear down.

Dr. Matthew Neuhaus discusses the difference between the over-the-counter inserts in stores compared to the ones in our office that we recommend for our patients experiencing foot pain. For more information about the best shoe inserts, call our office at (615) 220-8788 or stop by our office. For locations, please visit our website www.neufoot.com.

For starters, foot orthotics are shoe inserts designed to support, align, or improve the function of the foot.  These are meant to fit comfortably inside your shoes. Since orthotics are are prescription devices, they are custom-made to suit your individual needs and biomechanics (the way your body moves). Orthotics are prescribed by your podiatrist when you are experiencing a particular foot problem after a complete examination. The podiatrist should take into account the way you move, the type of footwear you wear, your occupation, and other lifestyle factors.

A personalized approach comes into play because your podiatrist will come up with a care plan for you. This will include they type of prescription for your orthotics, the manufacturing of your custom orthotics, proper fitting and follow-up with your orthotics to make sure everything is designed correctly according to your care plan. Orthotics provide you with a long-term solution for the treatment of many foot problems, including but not limited to, corns, callouses, tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, recurrent ankle sprains, and stress fractures.

Ultimately, if you are experiencing any type of foot problem and over-the-counter inserts are not properly working, we recommend our patients receive custom orthotics. They may be expensive if your insurance does not cover the orthotics, but the custom inserts could potentially last you 10+ years. Plus if the orthotics align, support and/or improve the function of your feet and life, there should be no cost that is too high.
