Arthritis can be extremely painful and even debilitating, especially when it is in the feet. Each foot has 33 joints that can be affected by arthritis and it can make it difficult to get around and even to walk if your feet are affected.

However, if you have an early diagnosis and proper medical care, you can limit the damage that is done by arthritis or at least slow it.

So, it is very important to pay attention to symptoms that may caused by arthritis and to seek medical treatment as soon as possible if you believe you are suffering from arthritis.

Symptoms of arthritis in the foot and ankle include:

  • Redness or heat in a joint.
  • Limitation of motion in a joint.
  • Early morning stiffness.
  • Recurring pain or tenderness in a joint.
  • Swelling in one or more joints.
  • Skin changes, such as rashes or growths.

If you are suffering from any of these symptoms, see a podiatrist and have your foot or ankle evaluated. There are many treatments available for arthritis of the foot and ankle and you want to get started on treatment right away.

Your doctor may recommend physical therapy and exercises, steroid injections or anti-inflammatory medications, or orthotics or specially prescribed shoes.
