St. Louis Cardinals’ Oscar Taveras Still Struggling with Ankle Sprain
Oscar Taveras, outfielder for the St. Louis Cardinals, is still dealing with the effects of a high ankle sprain he suffered in the middle of May. The injury has put him on the disabled list twice this season and continues to plague him.
The first time, he returned on June 8 and managed to play fifteen games before having to go on the disabled list again. On July 15, he began a rehab assignment, but had to be taken out after only two at-bats.
Taveras is expected to be out this time at least until the end of the month.
It is an extremely disappointing injury for Taveras. He did very well last season and rated as a #3 overall prospect going into this season. Now he’s lost a lot of playing time.
Unfortunately, ankle injuries are common injuries in baseball and other sports and high ankle sprains can be particularly difficult to recover from quickly.
It is important to allow plenty of time for rehabilitation before attempting to go back to sports activities. Re-aggravating the injury can just cause you to be out for a longer period of time and you can even cause a worse injury to develop than the one you started with.
If you have suffered a sports injury and would like to set up an appointment with our office, you can contact Neuhaus Foot and Ankle at 615-220-8788 or at our toll-free number 888-713-0906. You can also request an appointment online.
