San Antonio Spurs’ Tiago Splitter Out with Sprained Ankle
Tiago Splitter, forward for the San Antonio Spurs, sprained his left ankle in the second half of Friday’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Spurs went on to win the game without Splitter 120-89.
X-rays on the ankle were negative, but Splitter left on crutches. Right now, it seems uncertain when Splitter will return to the game. According to the San Antonio Express-News, Splitter could be on the sidelines for seven to ten days, but coach Gregg Popovich apparently said he is uncertain when Splitter will be able to return.
Ankle sprains are a common basketball injury. If you suffer an ankle injury while playing, you should stop playing and have the ankle evaluated. It can be easy to mistake a sprain for an ankle fracture.
Even if it is only sprain, it still needs to be evaluated and treated appropriately. Leaving ankle sprains untreated can lead to further complications, such as chronic ankle instability.
