Portland Trailblazers’ LaMarcus Aldridge Out Recovering From Ankle Sprain
LaMarcus Aldridge, a forward for the Portland Trailblazers, sprained his left ankle in the last minute of the game against the New Orleans Hornets on Sunday, which the Trailblazers won 95-94.
Aldridge has already had x-rays done on the ankle, which were negative, and now he is scheduled to have an MRI performed.
Apparently, the ankle is causing Aldridge a lot of pain and he is using crutches to get around.
Ankle sprains can cause pain, soreness and difficulty in walking, along with other symptoms, including swelling, bruising, and stiffness in the joint.
It is important to have ankle sprains evaluated as Aldridge is doing to make sure that you have not suffered a more severe injury along with the sprain, such as a fracture. Prompt, appropriate treatment for ankle sprains is very important because untreated ankle sprains can lead to chronic ankle instability.
Rehabilitation needs to begin as soon as possible after the injury because if rehabilitation is delayed, the ankle may not heal properly. It is important to give the ankle time to heal before returning to regular activity.
At this point, it is unclear when Aldridge will be able to return to the court, but hopefully his ankle sprain will heal quickly.
In some severe cases, surgery may be needed to adequately treat ankle sprains, but in most cases ankle sprains can be treated with conservative treatments, such as with a cast or brace, a compression stocking, stretching exercises, icing and/or anti-inflammatory medications. Remember to always consult a physician before taking any medications. Your doctor will recommend appropriate treatment options for you since treatment depends on the severity and nature of the sprain.
