Los Angeles Dodgers’ Kenley Jansen Suffers Ingrown Toenail
Kenley Jansen, reliever for the Los Angeles Dodgers, missed a workout Saturday due to an ingrown toenail on the big toe of his right foot.
However, Jansen seems to be handling the injury well. After taking Saturday off, Jansen was able to make his bullpen session on Sunday with no problem.
Jansen had the ingrown toenail removed Monday.
Ingrown toenails are nails whose corners dig painfully into the skin and they often cause infection.
Ingrown toenails can be very painful and should always be treated appropriately to try to prevent an infection from occurring. There are some over-the-counter treatments available for ingrown toenails, but while they can provide pain relief, they do not fix the ingrown toenail. If you do have an ingrown toenail that becomes very painful or infected, see a doctor and have the toenail evaluated and treated properly.
If you suffer from repeated ingrown toenails, a podiatrist can remove a portion or even, in some cases, all of the nail. This procedure is called nail avulsion or partial nail avulsion.
There are different reasons that ingrown toenails develop, but a frequent cause is improper nail trimming. If you want to help avoid ingrown toenails from occurring, trim your toenails with toenail clippers straight across and only slightly longer than the end of the toe.
