Los Angeles Clippers’ Matt Barnes Plays Through Ankle Sprain
Matt Barnes, forward for the Los Angeles Clippers, suffered an ankle sprain during a game on Monday.
Barnes continued playing despite the sprain and went on to score eight points and get five rebounds.
However, Barnes missed Tuesday’s practice and, apparently, the ankle is still sore, but not getting any worse. He isn’t expected to miss any more playing time due to the injury.
We do not recommend that an athlete continue playing after an injury. If you play through the pain of an injury, you could cause further damage, which will prolong the time you are out of play in the long run.
Rehabilitation for an ankle sprain needs to start immediately. Untreated ankle sprains can lead to chronic ankle instability. Also, you may have done more than sprain the ankle. It can be difficult to tell an ankle sprain from an ankle fracture without an x-ray.
