French International Footballer Karim Benzema Undergoes Surgery for Ganglion Cyst
Karim Benzema, a French international footballer and a forward player for Real Madrid, underwent surgery in Lyon recently to remove a ganglion cyst from the back of his right knee.
Ganglion cysts are benign and during ganglion cyst removal surgery, the surgeon makes an incision over the mass. The cyst is then excised.
As with all surgerical procedures, there will be some rehabilitation and healing time involved. Most patients are able to return to demanding activities sometime between two weeks and two months after the procedure is performed.
Benzema is expected to be recovered and ready for play when the pre-season starts on July 15. Benzema scored 21 goals last season while playing for Real Madrid, so he is a valuable asset to the team.
Hopefully, the cyst will not reoccur in the knee. The recurrence rate for cysts is lower with surgery than with some other treatments, but it can happen.
If you are suffering from a ganglion cyst on the foot or ankle, see a podiatrist and have it evaluated. Your podiatrist can recommend the best treatment option for you.
