Former U.S. Open Champion Juan Martin del Potro Suffers Ankle Injury at Wimbledon
Juan Martin del Potro, a professional tennis player, injured his left ankle and knee when he took a tumble at Wimbledon on Saturday, June 29. Del Potro was going after a drop shot in the third set and slipped, falling on the grass.
The fall apparently twisted both his left knee and ankle. Del Potro received treatment for the knee and ankle and went on to win the match. Del Potro took a medical timeout after the next game.
However, he is apparently still having pain in the injured knee and ankle and will be consulting a doctor and possibly seeking further treatment for the injuries.
It is important to treat ankle sprains appropriately. Untreated ankle sprains can lead to the development of chronic ankle instability.
Del Potro will most likely have x-rays and other diagnostic testing done on the injuries to make sure there are no fractures or other problems. Hopefully, he will heal quickly and be back on the tennis court very soon.
