Foot Health Tips for Women
It is important for everyone to keep their feet healthy, and women are no exception. There are some things that women do specifically that put their feet at a higher risk for some foot problems.
Here are a few causes of foot problems among women that you may not know about:
- High heels. This is probably the most well-known cause of foot problems in women. You’ve probably heard about the dangers of wearing high heels. If you’ve ever worn high heels, I’m sure you can see why. High heels are often uncomfortable or even cause pain. High heels put the feet in an unnatural position and can cause problems to develop not only in the feet, but in the other parts of the body as well. Your shoes should never be uncomfortable. Look for shoes that provide your feet with support, and avoid shoes like high heels that cause discomfort.
- Pantyhose. Did you know that nylon pantyhose can actually cause foot problems? Nylon can cause excessive perspiration, which can lead to the development of Athlete’s Foot. Pantyhose that cause cramping of the toes or put pressure on the foot can also lead to problems like ingrown toenails and hammertoes. If you’re going to wear nylon stockings, make sure to wash them regularly, make sure the stockings fit properly, and try to limit the time you wear them.
- Pregnancy. Many women experience foot problems during pregnancy. Swelling is a very common problem, and so is general foot pain. Your feet undergo changes during pregnancy just like the rest of your body. During pregnancy, the feet need more support and you may need to make changes in your footwear and activities to take some pressure off your feet during this time.
