British X-Factor Judge Assists Personal Assistant With Ankle Injury
Tulisa Contostavlos, a judge on the British singing competition show The X-Factor, was out partying following the Pride of Britain Awards along with friends and her personal assistant, Gareth Varey, when Varey was run over by a car. Apparently, Varey was assisting Contostavlos into the car when he either tripped or was knocked over and fell behind the car, which was being repositioned by the driver. According to reports, Varey suffered a serious injury to his leg/ankle and some even say his foot was crushed when the car ran over him. Varey was helped into the car, which took him and Contostavlos to the Mayfair hotel. Many photographs were taken of Contostavlos looking very concerned about her assistant and attempting to comfort him as she accompanied him to the hotel, leading the way in while two men assisted Varey so he would not have to put weight on his injured leg. However, Varey was later taken from the hotel by paramedics and put into an ambulance where he was treated and taken to the hospital.
Varey tweeted after the incident, “I love the British paparazzi. Go you,” along with a picture of his leg in a cast.
There are many causes for a broken ankle, but falls and automobile accidents are common causes, as well as sports injuries. Something many people don’t know is that the ankle actually has three bones and a broken ankle can involve one or more of the bones. If you have injured your ankle in an accident like Varey’s, in a fall, or any other way, it is important to have it evaluated by a medical professional and treated appropriately. A broken ankle can sometimes be taken for a severe ankle sprain and is not taken as seriously as it should be. Either injury needs to be seen by a medical professional as soon as possible so treatment can begin and the injury can heal properly.
Some symptoms of a broken ankle are:
- Severe pain
- Inability to put weight on the injured foot
Treatment for a broken ankle will usually involve a brace or leg cast. Surgery may be required if the ligaments are also torn or if the ankle fracture created a loose fragment of bone, which could irritate the joint.
