Blue Jackets’ Cam Atkinson Still Struggling with Ankle Injury
Cam Atkinson, right winger for the Blue Jackets ice hockey team, is still struggling with an injury he suffered in January: a high ankle sprain.
The injury is expected to affect Atkinson for the rest of the season.
Ankle sprains are a common sports injury and high ankle sprains are especially dreaded because they tend to be a nagging injury and take a long time to heal.
Rest and avoidance of activity are important in healing sprains. Hopefully, when Atkinson has time to rest over the summer, the ankle will heal appropriately.
Untreated ankle sprains can lead to chronic ankle instability.
If you suffer an ankle sprain, you should seek medical attention and have it properly diagnosed and treated. It can be difficult to tell an ankle sprain from a ankle fracture without an x-ray.
